About the role  

Alinta Energy is seeking a dynamic Senior Governance Advisor with privacy and data governance experience to play a critical role in ensuring compliance with privacy laws and FIRB Conditions while driving a culture of excellence in governance. This is an opportunity to influence data security, privacy compliance, and governance practices across the business. 

Reporting to the General Manager, Governance & Audit, you will provide expert legal and strategic advice while enhancing processes and systems to embed a strong compliance culture.

What you’ll do  

  • Provide expert legal and risk advice on privacy compliance, data management, FIRB Conditions and emerging technologies 

  • Identify risks and develop governance frameworks to mitigate legal and compliance challenges 

  • Support regulator engagements, external audits, and privacy compliance programs to drive continuous improvement 

  • Enhance data governance projects and strengthen Alinta’s information security and compliance initiatives 

  • Ensure privacy-by-design principles are embedded in business processes, policies, and systems 

Your experience  

  • 6+ years PQE legal experience (in-house or private practice) ideally with expertise in privacy, data governance, or IT-related compliance

  • Strong understanding of Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), and governance best practices 

  • Proven ability to interpret and apply privacy laws and risk management frameworks in a corporate setting 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide concise, business-focused legal advice 

  • Experience in developing compliance programs, engaging with regulators (OAIC, FIRB), and advising on cybersecurity, AI, or cloud-based technologies is highly regarded
