The better way forward
As one of Australia’s biggest energy retailers, with over 1.1 million customers, we have big plans for how we’ll help transform energy in affordable and sustainable ways over the coming years. It’s a genuinely exciting time for us, and it means we can offer opportunities to do work that makes everyone’s future better.
Your part in it
Join our high-impact legal team as a junior lawyer supporting major energy trading, portfolio management, and power generation projects. You’ll draft and negotiate complex contracts, advise on regulatory and commercial matters, and help drive innovative energy solutions. Work closely with senior stakeholders and external advisors, contribute to strategic initiatives, and play a key role in shaping the legal foundations of our growing business. This is a dynamic, hands-on role at the heart of Australia’s energy transition.
What you’ll get out of it
We’re a welcoming bunch who put our energy into being the best company we can be. For us, this means shared respect, great communication between teams, acting on our ideas, and looking out for each other’s wellbeing. There are plenty of great perks, from flexible working to a long list of exclusive Alinta benefits.
What you’ll put into it
- Provide legal advice and support on energy supply contracts, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance matters
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of legal documents, including contracts, deeds, and agreements
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and external parties to understand legal requirements and risks
- Assist the Projects Legal team on major renewable energy projects as required
- Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry developments
What you’ll bring to it
- 4–6 years’ experience as a solicitor (in-house or private practice), with a focus on commercial contracting and procurement
- A current practicing certificate
- Sharp attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a pragmatic approach to legal advice
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with sound risk judgment, supporting the business to achieve its objectives in ways that are both pragmatic and future-proof
- Energy sector experience is a bonus, but not essential
This role suits a junior lawyer looking for a balance of autonomy and support from senior lawyers.
