Alinta Energy is one of Australia’s biggest energy retailers, generators and developers with over 1.1 million customers. Australia’s energy system is undergoing the biggest transformation in its history and we’re right there with it. We’re investing in and developing large-scale renewables and storage projects as part of our ongoing effort to provide our customers with reliable, affordable and sustainable energy.
We understand that flexibility matters when considering your next role. Let us know your requirements, and we’ll carefully consider how we might accommodate them.
Ready to make a real impact?
Alinta Energy is hiring a dedicated SME Pricing Analyst based in Sydney or Melbourne, to accelerate growth in our small business customer segment. This role sits at the intersection of pricing development, commercial analysis and system enablement, with a strong initial focus on building and embedding robust, bottom‑up pricing capability and helping design and establish the system functionality and processes needed to support a deeper and more tailored approach to small business pricing.
Reporting directly to the Head of Pricing, you’ll shape pricing direction for this segment by constructing transparent, assumption‑driven pricing models that clearly link cost inputs, margin targets and final price outcomes, guide how pricing is delivered through our systems, and operate with a high level of autonomy in a role that plays a foundational part in how we grow and compete in the small business market.
You’ll turn complex cost, customer and regulatory inputs into clear, commercially sound pricing outcomes with models designed to flex as assumptions evolve, while partnering closely with teams across Sales, Product, Customer Strategy, Wholesale and Billing to drive effective execution.
Why you’ll love working here
At Alinta Energy, we’re taking real action to deliver reliable and sustainable energy for Australia - and that practical approach runs through everything we do. You’ll get clear direction, genuine flexibility, and the support you need to grow, all while working on projects that make a lasting difference. We’re big enough to create impact, but small enough that your ideas and effort will always be seen.
There are plenty of other great benefits of working for Alinta Energy, including flexible working, energy discounts, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a paid volunteer day each year, fully stocked kitchens, and lots more.
What you'll do
- Own commercial pricing outcomes for the small business segment, translating cost drivers, regulatory constraints, competitive dynamics, and margin objectives into optimised price structures and recommendations with clear rationale.
- Build and maintain bottom up pricing models that clearly link wholesale, network, retail, and operational cost inputs to margin targets and final customer prices, with the flexibility to test scenarios as assumptions shift.
- Identify revenue, margin, and volume optimisation opportunities by analysing customer behaviour, load profiles, tariff structures, and competitor positioning, and quantify trade offs to support clear commercial decisions.
- Shape the pricing capability for a new and growing segment, working closely with technology and operational teams to define requirements, guide system build, and ensure pricing logic, controls, and governance are fit for scale.
- Establish repeatable pricing processes and frameworks that support effective execution today and a smooth transition into BAU as the segment grows.
- Partner with Sales, Product, Customer Strategy, Wholesale, Networks, and Billing to validate assumptions, align on commercial objectives, and ensure pricing outcomes are executable and market competitive.
- Operate with autonomy and commercial judgement, setting priorities, communicating recommendations clearly, and continuously improving pricing performance, processes, and tools.
Your experience
- Strong quantitative and financial modelling capability, ideally with a degree in commerce, economics, accounting, maths or similar
- Proven analytical ability and commercial acumen - able to translate complex cost, regulatory and competitive factors into clear pricing recommendations, with the ability to explain how those inputs flow through to margin and final price.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complexity for senior leaders, technical teams and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Experience working autonomously in environments that require process creation, system understanding and structured methodical execution.
- Strong problem solving capability, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, work through incomplete information, and develop practical, commercially sound solutions
- Energy retail or SME‑segment experience (pricing, billing, settlements or product) highly desirable but not essential if you bring the right quantitative skills
Please note this role requires full working rights within Australia.
