Ready to make a real impact?
This role sits in Retail Markets, supporting the commercial and procurement requirements which service our mass market customers nationally. As Commercial Contracts Specialist, you will be the commercial contracts subject matter expert, leading significant procurement work streams, provide commercial and contractual advice, and manage key regulated agreements with energy distribution networks. You will work with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, to assess market opportunities, negotiate with suppliers and help deliver strong commercial outcomes across a diverse portfolio of contracts.
Why you’ll love working here
At Alinta Energy, we’re taking real action to deliver reliable and sustainable energy for Australia - and that practical approach runs through everything we do. You’ll get clear direction, genuine flexibility, and the support you need to grow, all while working on projects that make a lasting difference. We’re big enough to create impact, but small enough that your ideas and effort will always be seen.
There are plenty of other great benefits of working for Alinta Energy, including flexible working, energy discounts, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a paid volunteer day each year, fully stocked kitchens, and lots more.
What you’ll do
- Lead procurement work streams, including market testing, tender documentation and supplier negotiations.
- Draft, review and challenge commercial terms to support strong contracting outcomes.
- Provide commercial advice on Retail Markets opportunities, proposals and supplier arrangements.
- Manage key distribution agreements, including contractual queries, variations and execution support.
- Work with legal and regulatory teams to interpret obligations, codes and regulations.
Support contract owners to embed new suppliers after implementation.
Your experience
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, law or a related discipline
- Experience in commercial, contracts, procurement or strategic sourcing roles.
- Experience interpreting, drafting and reviewing commercial terms and documentation.
- Strong vendor management, supplier negotiation and stakeholder influencing skills.
- Commercial acumen, attention to detail and ability to prioritise quality work.
- Advanced Microsoft Word capability and strong written communication skills.
- Experience in energy, gas, utilities or another regulated industry would be highly regarded.
Please note this role requires full working rights within Australia.
This role is best suited to a commercially minded contracts professional who enjoys negotiating with suppliers, interpreting complex agreements and building strong stakeholder relationships. Energy or regulated industry experience would be helpful, but a strong commercial mindset and attention to detail are most important.
