Join Alinta Energy’s Spot Trading team as an Energy Spot Trader, working on a real time trading desk managing electricity and gas positions across the Australian market. Based in Sydney, this hands on opportunity is suited to early career candidates looking to build their trading capability in a fast paced, collaborative environment, supported by structured training and experienced traders. You’ll gain direct exposure to live market decision making across both the NEM and WEM within a 24/7 rostered trading environment.

What you'll do

• Support the management and optimisation of electricity and gas trading positions in real time
• Contribute to dispatch, bids and offers across spot markets, aligned to portfolio objectives
• Monitor market conditions and assist with short‑term trading decisions under guidance from senior traders
• Work closely with internal stakeholders including asset managers and broader trading teams
• Build capability through structured training, shadow shifts, and progressive exposure to live trading activity

Your experience

• 1–3 years’ experience in energy trading, trading support, or market operations
• Exposure to the Australian energy market, ideally NEM and/or WEM
• Strong analytical capability, with a background in engineering, economics, finance or a similar field
• Ability to operate in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment with strong attention to detail
• Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to learn and develop within a trading team
