Alinta Energy is one of Australia’s biggest energy retailers, generators and developers with over 1.1 million customers. Australia’s energy system is undergoing the biggest transformation in its history and we’re right there with it. We’re investing in and developing large-scale renewables and storage projects as part of our ongoing effort to provide our customers with reliable, affordable and sustainable energy.

We understand that flexibility matters when considering your next role. Let us know your requirements, and we’ll carefully consider how we might accommodate them.

Ready to make a real impact?

Reporting to the Team Leader, Payroll, this role supports the accurate and compliant processing of payroll in line with Australian legislation, awards and organisational requirements. You will be responsible for validating payroll inputs, maintaining employee records, resolving routine payroll queries and supporting reconciliations to ensure employees are paid correctly and on time.

Working closely with Finance, People & Culture, Reward and other stakeholders, you will contribute to payroll governance by applying routine award and legislative requirements under guidance, supporting internal control processes and ensuring payroll documentation is stored correctly. This role also plays an important part in delivering quality customer service and supporting continuous improvement across payroll operations. Our Payroll team works on a fortnightly pay cycle and uses the Definitiv payroll system.

Why you’ll love working here

At Alinta Energy, we’re taking real action to deliver reliable and sustainable energy for Australia - and that practical approach runs through everything we do. You’ll get clear direction, genuine flexibility, and the support you need to grow, all while working on projects that make a lasting difference. We’re big enough to create impact, but small enough that your ideas and effort will always be seen.

There are plenty of other great benefits of working for Alinta Energy, including flexible working, energy discounts, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a paid volunteer day each year, fully stocked kitchens, and lots more.

What you’ll do

  • Process payroll transactions accurately and on time
  • Verify and process payroll inputs, timesheets and employee changes
  • Calculate routine entitlements and termination payments, escalating complex cases as required
  • Resolve routine payroll queries and discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Complete employee pay and leave reconciliations
  • Support payroll governance, documentation and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with Finance, People & Culture and other stakeholders to deliver quality service

Your experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ payroll experience in an Australian payroll environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards and compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to work accurately in a deadline‑driven environment
  • High attention to detail with strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability
  • Experience working in a medium-to-large, complex payroll environment
  • Experience using the Definitiv payroll system (desirable)

Please note this role requires full working rights within Australia.

This role is best suited to a detail‑oriented payroll professional who thrives in a deadline‑driven environment and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a supportive team.
